Where Has The Music Gone?

I have seen the music industry from artists, to recording studios, to producers go through many changes in the twenty years I have been in the music industry. So what do you do? Change? Adapt? Or stare yourself down in the mirror wondering where you will go or how you will survive the ever depreciating music world?

As a beginner, you're up against a lot. As a professional, you're up against a lot. My way of looking at it is, anything that can be done, can be done better by someone else. Ask yourself what are you going for? Do you want to change the game? Or present a unique style of your own? What risks are you willing to take? There are many answers to each and every single one of these questions, but the most important are your answers. I could tell you that you shouldn't attempt a different style in a specific genre simply because it won't work, but who am I? You are the one who decides. We are in fact up against a lot in this modern-day music industry.

So where has the music gone? It has been beaten, chopped, screwed, spat out, washed, dried, ironed, unfolded...let me stop. We have genres joining hands and introducing different styles of music. We really can't even begin to categorize some of the music that is out there now into a genre. What are genre's anymore? So for beginners, there is a big step...which genre do you commit to? Are you limited to one? Are you limiting yourself by choosing one genre? These are important factors to consider when taking that first step. It is important as an established artist as well. Some are stepping out of the box and joining this merge of genres, some are holding strong, and maybe some simply can't change or adapt. Whatever it is, it's an important step.

So here's the thing...music has the power to change lives, open someone's ear, open someone's eyes, open someone's heart. Dig deep down, is the passion to sing, produce, perform, is it burning? If it is, don't put the fire out. The best advice I can give you, is act upon your first instinct. If you have a raging fire and desire inside you to be indulged in the music world, then the first reaction to something that you have will be the most important; pay attention to it. Another word of advice, take advantage of the tools we now have. This is a huge boost to what they used back in the day. Think about Jimmy Page...he use to mic a ten inch tweed amp and made it sound like that guitar was coming out of some of the best compressors and pedals in the game. They did not have what we have now. Use it! This is the most important thing that you can do, grab technology by the horns and ride it! Set yourself apart from the rest, I have an option that is helping many beginner artists and I also work with established artists, but the key is applying yourself and taking advantage of what is out there now, for you. Feel free to visit, and learn how to step up your game and take advantage of whats there for you.
